Microsoft Lumia phones face an import ban in the US over patent issue

The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) has said in a ruling that Microsoft's Lumia series phones infringe on a pair of patents belonging to InterDigital. Microsoft lost the lawsuit and faces a ban on the import of Lumia Windows Phone handsets in the country.

InterDigital Inc. had claimed that Microsoft violated its wireless patents by using its technology in its Lumia devices without permission. The lawsuit was filed against Nokia earlier, in which Nokia was cleared. However, the U.S. Court of Appeals overturned the ruling and since Microsoft acquired Nokia's devices division, it had to face the music in court yesterday. If Microsoft does not manage to successfully appeal against this ruling, it could face a ban on the import of its handsets into the US.

According to Reuters, ITC judge Theodore Essex has ruled that "Microsoft infringed on two wireless cellular patents owned by InterDigital". He further ruled that it would "not be against the public interest to ban the Microsoft devices from import into the United States".

Microsoft can import devices until The ITC comes to a conclusion before the end of August.
This could turn turn out to be a major blow to the Redmond-based technology giant, given its plans to launch Windows 10 based Lumia devices this year.

Microsoft Lumia 840 Rumored to come soon

Microsoft has discontinued its once popular handset the Lumia 830, in order to introduce another handset which will be the successor of the same and may be said Lumia 840. The device is most likely to come with Windows 8.1 Out of the box unlike the rumored Lumia 940 & 940 XL which will come with Windows 10 Out of the box.



Although the phone will be coming with Windows 8.1 but it is sure that the phone will be getting an update to Windows 10 once it is out.

The phone is expected to have an updated and a more powerful processor then its predecessor, dual SIM support, 13/15 Megapixel PureView camera and a 5 Megapixel sensor at the front. The screen is said to be around 5 inches, these are still in the development stages and hence the name may vary and even the specs.

Lumia 540 Dual Sim Launched for 149$

We are getting another Lumia in the low-end segment as the Lumia 540, which is a dual SIM device, the phone is priced for $149 which indeed translates to INR 9000 in Indian pricing. the phone will take debut in all the major markets by May 2015. The device comes pre-installed with Windows Phone 8.1 (Lumia Denim update) and has a phablet sized screen of  5-inch HD resolution display, along with some basic specs under the hood.

Lain Pottie, senior design manager of Industrial design at Microsoft  said,

 “The Lumia team is passionate about product-making, creating every smartphone with a distinct design personality within a coherent design approach, Our customers are the source of so much inspiration, but we know they have different needs and budgets, so we always want to provide choice. That’s why today we’re introducing the new Lumia 540 Dual SIM.”

Microsof  said that the phone will be upgraded to Windows 10, but due to some limitations not all the features of the Windows 10 will be their on the system, it will run on Windows 10 but with limited features. The price of the phone is quite competitive at just $149.99, the phone will be available in India, Middle East, Africa, along with other areas. In India the phone will be priced around INR 9000.

Microsoft Lumia 830 & 930 Gold Variant now officially available

Earlier this year in January Microsoft announced a premium variant of their largest selling handsets the Lumia 930 & Lumia 830 the premium models will be Golden variant of the phone. As of now their are no words on the Lumia 830 but but the Nokia Lumia 930 in Gold is now available from select retailers in Europe, the Middle East, the Asia Pacific and Africa.



The plastic area of the phone be chosen from the Black or White color scheme but the metalic part is in the gold hue, talking about the pricing their are no clue that they are being sold at the normal pricing as the other or they do have a bit higher pricing scheme.

Lumia 640 & 640 XL launched for 11,999 & 15,799 INR Respectivly

Microsoft launched the rumored phone that was about to launch today in an event. Microsoft has been working to expand its smartphone portfolio in Indian market. The company has launched two new devices in the country, the Lumia 640 and 640 XL.  Both the phones pursues Windows 8.1 OS with the Lumia Denim Update, and is said to be updated to the Windows 10 as available.  The Lumia 640 is priced at Rs. 11,999 and the Lumia 640 XL is priced at Rs. 15,799.

Microsoft is also offering a one-year free subscription to Microsoft Office 365 and 1 TB of OneDrive storage with both the devices. While the Lumia 640 will be available exclusively on Flipkart, the 640 XL will be available for purchase everywhere.

Microsoft has been sending the invites for the April 7 event of Microsoft where they will be launching the Lumia 640 & even the Lumia 640XL, they did conformed that they will be going exclusive to Flipkart for the above two units and hence, flipkart teases the handsets on Twitter. Flipkart’s teaser includes two medals painted in Microsoft Windows colors and highlighting the smartphone’s camera and battery capabilities.

 The tag line says, “A new challenger comes, to change the game!” and also mentions ‘Achieve More’, which is often used for Lumia smartphones related marketing campaigns.
